Surgery clinics

We offer a range of clinics and services at the surgery. There are some tasks you can do, such as health reviews, using our online forms.

Adult and travel immunisation

These vaccines are given by the practice nurses. We offer a limited range of travel vaccines including yellow fever. Please allow at least 6 weeks before travel to submit your travel forms either online or at the practice. Further information can be found on the above tab.

Routine tetanus boosters are not necessary if you have had 5 doses (the normal child and school course involves 5 injections for tetanus).

Antenatal clinic

A clinic is run on Monday’s all day at London Road and Thursday all day at Elstow Medical Centre with the midwife. Antenatal patients are cared for by a team of midwives who may also care for you during labour, if appropriate.

Asthma appointments

Asthma clinics are run by a practice nurse. Asthmatics are invited to attend annually for a review to check on inhaler technique, control of asthma cough and wheeze as well as a review of treatment. Adjustments in medication may be necessary from time to time.

Cervical screening clinics

Clinics are run by the nursing team and results are sent by the Health Authority. The practice notifies patients of any abnormality.

Child health clinic

The above takes place at a local children’s centres with members of the health visiting team, where you can receive information regarding your child’s and /or baby’s wellbeing. Please check with your health visitor for details.

Child immunisation

We run a clinic on Friday morning with two nurses. You will be invited to attend in writing. Please notify the receptionist if you are unable to attend so an alternative appointment can be given. To reduce waiting times appointments are booked in for patients and not on a first come, first served basis. Once a fortnight an additional pre-school booster clinic is held on a Wednesday afternoon. Once a fortnight there is also a one year old booster clinic held on a Wednesday afternoon.

COPD clinic (chronic respiratory problems)

Aimed at people who have COPD with a view to increase their awareness about COPD, and to help with symptom control and to assist with reducing acute episodes from the disease. During clinics patients are seen by a healthcare assistant and a doctor or nurse. A call and recall system is in place for this clinic.

Diabetic clinic

We run two sessions a week with a doctor, nurse and healthcare assistant. All diabetics not attending the hospital are advised to attend. You may be asked to have a blood test prior to attending your appointment.

Learning disability annual health check

The annual health check is to ensure that the person with learning disabilities has aspects of their health checked and recorded by their GP practice. It should also allow them to identify anything that is worrying them.

Minor surgery

A full range of procedures is available. Please discuss with a doctor.

Postnatal care

An appointment for your postnatal check up is arranged for approximately eight weeks after the birth and this will be sent by post. We do not routinely visit new born babies unless there is a medical need.

Smoking cessation

This practice is part of a nationwide initiative to help patients stop smoking to minimise the risks of diseases such as lung, throat and mouth cancers and heart disease. Contact the surgery for an appointment.
